John Oliver managed to do the impossible over the weekend. He did a mainstream show on sex work that – as far as I can tell – was universally applauded by sex workers. He managed to hit a lot of key points in a short space of time and pushed the right way forward – decriminalization. If you’ve not seen the episode you can check it out here.
I’ve a particular fondness for John Oliver, as we grew up in the same part of the world. We were also born around the same time and we both moved to the States seeking greater success in our jobs. So other than the small details – like his fame, wealth, success and talent – we’re basically two peas in a pod.
My favorite twitter comment that I spotted from a sex worker was the desire ‘to sit on his face while he ranted about SW rights’. Amen to that.
This image has been floating around online for many years. I’ve always enjoyed stumbling upon, as she looks to be having a lot of fun. Not sure the guy is doing much SW rights ranting, but you can’t have everything.
